About Barton

*A Barton & Co.(Toys) Ltd started trading officially in 1945, as soon as the war finished.

*The first official trademark of Bartons was an ink stamp of a diamond with the letter A B & Co. Then in 1949 this was replaced with a label for a time.

*Bartons flourished, using other suppliers for certain items eg.Barrett & Son metal items, Grecon Dolls, Kaybot plaster food.

*In 1975 the Caroline’s Home Range was brought out. By now the use of plastic was extensive.

*In 1984 Barton was bought out by Lundby Ltd.

Early Barton Tudor Dresser  @ £26.00 SOLD

This is one of the more unusual and desirable Barton pieces, from the Barton Tudor Range and utterly lovely. It has the distinctive red and black label on the reverse, which dates this from c1948 to early 1950s. This is in a dark stained finish, with two upper shelves topped off by “sausage and ball beading”. There is one lower opening door with a beautiful embossed panel, so too on each side of the door and indeed on each side panel of the actual dresser are further embossed panels. This is such a lovely piece! Interestingly the handle is a black headed pin, which I am now told is an original handle – I had first thought that they had been replacements. This is in a good played with condition, a little wear. Measures 4 1/8″ wide x 1 1/2″ at deepest point x 5″ high.

Early Barton Tudor Court Cupboard@ £26.00 SOLD

This is a desirable early wooden court cupboard from the Barton Tudor Range. It has the distinctive red and black label on the reverse, which dates this from c1948 to early 1950s. This is in a dark stained finish, with  a top edging of the distinctive “sausage and ball beading”. There is one lower and one upper  opening door with abeautiful embossed panel, so too on each side of each  door and indeed on each side panel of the actual dresser are further embossed panels. On the upper side too are turned dowel supports.  Interestingly both handles appear to be black headed pins, which I am now told are probably the original handles – I had first thought that they had been replacements? Vintage Pair of Brass Vases, Pair Of Brass Candlesticks & Three Brass Cups With Saucers Plus Three Brass Plates(Part of Barton’s Tudor range) @ £18.00 SOLD

These turned brass items were sold by Barton and compliment the Tudor furniture range. I have put these together and selling them as a set of two candlesticks,  two vases, three cups and saucers (please note the cups do not have handles) and three plates. These would look fabulous decorating the Tudor dresser or court cupboard. All are in a well played with condition, some wear plus there is a little tarnishing, particularly on one of the plates in particular. To give an indication on size, the vase measures 5/8″ high, candlesticks measure 3/4″ high, plates measure 3/4″ diameter, saucers measure 1/2″ diameter.

Vintage Brass Fruit Bowl & Powder Bowl With Lid @ £14.50SOLD

These two turned brass items were sold as a set in a cellophane packet during the1950s by Barton, to complement the Barton Tudor furniture, and do not come along as often as the other brass pieces. This is a brass fruit bowl and a tiny round powder bowl with lid…..how many of these pieces have been lost in young hands over the years!  These are both in a good played with condition, some wear. Fruit bowl is tiny measuring 3/8″ high x 1/2″ in diameter. The powder bowl with lid measures just under 1/2″ high.

Vintage Barton Mangle & Bowl @ £14.50

Here is a metal wire Barton mangle, with rubber rollers that rotate via the side handle. There is  a lower tin shelf which is useful for standing this blue plastic bowl on. There is some wear to the painted metal wire and a little rust to the upper metal bits including under the rollers, which seems to suggest that a little previous owner has had great fun wringing out their mini dolly washing on this…..fabulous!!!  So I would say this mangle and plastic bowl are in a relatively good played with condition, some wear. Measures 2 5/8″ high  x 2″ at base x 1 1/4″ deep at base. Nice items.

Vintage Early 1950s Barton Hall Stand (Missing Drawer) @ £9.95

Here is an earlier version of a brown varnished Barton’s hall stand, with two lower opening doors, a heavily tarnished mirror, two umbrella/walking stick holders either side and four large metal tack hanging hooks. Please note that the lower drawer is missing but the empty hole could be useful for storage too. The handles  on the doors are black stained wood, later versions of this item would have had metal handles. On the back is the price of 4/3, which is delightful and a sign of the times!:) Overall this is in a relatively good played with condition, however the heavily tarnished mirror and missing drawer is reflected in the price. Measures 4″ high x 2 3/8″ wide x 1 1/4″ deep.
