c1920s Homemade Peg Doll @ £8.00

Here is a delightful homemade peg doll from the c1920s. The main part of the body is of course, an old fashioned wooden peg and an oddment of wood has been bound across the body to represent the arms. However, the wood looks to have been a scrap of wood as one side the wood is think with a nail hole, and the other side is much thicker. Old lace, ribbon and material have been sewn around the body to create the clothes. The head has been painted in the tradtional peg doll way including hair and facial features. What a curious item this is! Measures 4 3/4″ high.

Rare & Unique Three c1920s Handmade  Dolls In Ceylon Style @ £15.00

I have never handled quite any dolls like these before and they are utterly unique! They belonged to a lady who as  a child grew up in Ceylon in the 1920s. If you look at these carefully you will see that the style of clothing and  features are very much in the Ceylon style I guess of that time, so really these are a piece of unique social history.  Ok…they have been quite crudely made with ordinary materials that would have been available at that time, and the hand stitching is quite visible in places but they are still charming in their own right. The arms and head have been made by stuffed material, the facial features have been drawn on with pen. There are no legs but the main body has been made as a stuffed tube of material which extends right down to the floor and the long clothing hides this. Each one measures approx. 5 1/4″ high. I think I would describe these as being in a well played with condition, and are a little grubby but I hope there is someone out there who can give these a good home.

Antique Male Bisque Doll Missing Arm & Two Feet @ £8.50 SOLD

Here is a damaged antique doll but he is still rather handsome – I do hope someone out there can give him a good home.

Ok, he has lost an arm, he has two feet missing, but he has a wonderful bisque head with delightful facial features and one bisque hand.  Just look at that moustache! The bisque feet have snapped off the lower legs. The main part of this doll has a stuffed material body and amazingly still has the original clothes ie. suit, which are fascinating. It still has the two original tiny buttons! There is an illusion of a shirt and an embroidered tie. He measures 4 3/4″ high and probably be about 5″ high if he still had his feet? Maybe he could sit in a chair or bed and his missing limbs hidden by a blanket?  Could be useful to someone.

Vintage Dol-Toi Schoolboy Doll @ £8.50 SOLD

Here is a rather splendid vintage Dol-Toi schoolboy with wired body bound in wool, plastic head with slightly flocked brown hair, black painted lead shoes. Completely pliable, with felt clothes. Overall in a good played with condition. The new owner may wish (although  not absolutely necessary) to add a dot of glue or stitch to one of the shoulder seams of his jumper as I have just noticed whilst photographing that it is just beginning to slightly come adrift. Stands at a height of 3 1/8″. I love the detail of his mock grey/red socks!

Vintage Dol-Toi Grandma Doll @ £6.00 SOLD

Here is a vintage grandma doll, with wired body bound in wool, plastic head with grey hair, black painted lead shoes, original material clothes. Overall in good played with condition but please note that a previous owner has hand stitched an obvious tear on the side of her dress.  The bodice of her dress is rather pretty,  created with a pretty decorative piece of braid I think. Price reflects this. Stands at a height of 3 3/4″.

Vintage c1950s Crescent Metal Sitting Children Figures – Pair @ £9.50

Not strictly dolls I know but as they are figures, I have decided to put them under this doll category.

Here are a pair of c1950s Crescent Metal Child Figures originally from the Crescent Garden Party Set, and are in a sitting position. The boy has an all blue outfit and the girl a very fetching pink dress. No they have not lost their hands, they were just not manufactured with any so they are actually complete although as you can see, these are rather playworn but nevertheless  quite charming.  I am unsure quite what the exact scale is but let’s just say these could have a variety of uses in an old dolls house ie. as actual doll figures in the smaller dolls house or as dolls house dolls in a larger scale dolls house. In the sitting position each figure measures 1 3/4″ overall height.

Vintage Plastic Japanese Male Doll  – Damaged @ £3.50

Here is a vintage plastic doll marked FOREIGN on his foot but believed to be of Japanese origin, in original fabric clothes. His waistcoat in particular is rather splendid with sequin buttons. His limbs are moveable and head fixed, but please note that unfortunately his head has three splits in the plastic – notably above his left eye, on the back of his head and along the head seam. He has been in the wars! Hence the greatly reduced price but maybe someone out there can give this little chap a good home. Stands at a height of 3 3/4″.

Vintage Bisque Kewpie Doll Large Scale @ £7.00

This is an attractive vintage bisque Kewpie doll, it just makes me smile! It is quite large scale so please take note of the size. Could be useful to someone. Exact make and date is unknown, probably more vintage than antique,  but on the bottom it is marked FOREIGN KW1161. The Kewpie doll has those distinctive eyes looking to the right, two tiny blue Kewpie wings, and in a sitting poise, sucking its thumb. This doll is in a good played with condition, a little black marking on the back of the head and on the back.  It is exquisite. Measures approx. 3 1/4″ high from bottom to top of head, so quite large.
