c1950s Tri-ang Queen Anne Dolls House @ £79.00 SOLD
Here is an attractive wooden Tri-ang dolls house in a turquoise finish, in mostly original condition and in 1/16th scale.
The frontage opens into two halves to reveal four rooms with staircase up the middle, the frontage is lockable via the original metal hook and eye. There is one interior blue painted wooden door that separates the two upstairs rooms. All wallpapers and floor papers are original. There are some remnants of a decorative holly and berry paper trim around the inside of the frontage edges – the previous owner thought it was original, am not so sure? The downstairs floor papers are torn in places along the front edge plus there are some water stains on the left downstairs paper. The upstairs floor paper has scuffing and some marking. Nevertheless, it is pleasing to have these present as so often they are missing. There is a splinter of wood missing on the far right hand front edge of the middle floor but hardly noticeable. All the floral wallpaper is original and delightful. According to Marion Osborne’s The Book Of Tri-ang Dolls Houses we can date these papers and subsequently the house itself, to circa 1955-1957. The staircase can in fact be removed completely to make one large downstairs room if so wished.
The front door and all windows (apart from one replacement) are all made of plastic and original to the house. Please note that the downstairs right side window has been cleverly made of wood as a replacement by the previous owner. Nearly all the plastic windows are slightly warped from age but are still intact and pleasing to have. Some of the original plastic inserts are still present, but some are missing. It is particularly pleasing to still have the two half opening front doors present, as these are so often missing. The tiny plastic door knob off the left door is missing. Please note that the right hand door has lost it’s tiny plastic swing hinge so the door is fixed on with ancient sticky tape – may need attention and replaced with new tape?
The exterior is in original condition, with dark green painted base and turquoise exterior. On the back one can just see the outline of where the original rectangular Tri-ang label would have been, there is also some fading of the turquoise paint on the top back. The red cardboard roof is embossed to give the illusion of roof tiles. There are two chimneys, the left one is fixed but the right hand one is loose. One of the chimney pots on the right chimney is a replacement. The roof can actually be removed completely.
Measurements: 24 7/8″ wide at base x 13″ deep at base x 22 1/2″ tall to top of chimney pots
