c1930s-1950s Britains Lead Garden Set @ £175.00
This is a substantial lead garden set, and at first glance one may think that the asking price is rather expensive, but please note that this set is made up of 109 separate items, mostly Britains lead garden items, all from the 1930s – 1950s…so actually this is good value. I have had great fun exploring all the various layouts one can achieve with all these pieces, but for photographing purposes I chose the layout as seen in the photos. Many other various Britains lead garden items were manufactured, and one could have great fun seeking them out to add to your collection and increase the layout options further with this set.
Most of these pieces are in a relatively good played with condition, there is some wear, and one or two flowers may have missing flower heads, as you can see from the photos, but generally most are intact. In total there are 42 flowers. In my description, please assume that the pieces are painted lead Britians pieces, unless I describe otherwise. So here goes…the garden set comprises of the following: 6 x Green Cork Grass Squares (x 2 slightly damaged), 2 x rock garden steps, x 3 various rock garden blocks, 2 x long walls, 1 x long balustrade wall, 2 x short balustrade walls, 1 x pond (missing central nymph statuette), 2 x curved beds, 1 x long straight bed, 1 x corner bed, 35 x crazy paving squares, sundial (missing most of pointer on top), 1 x flower pot, 2 x unknown rabbits, 3 x unknown bushes, 1 x unknown tree and 1 x unknown urn with handles. Flowers as follows: 4 x dahlias, 5 x foxgloves, 8 x poppies, 2 x red hot pokers, 8 x gladiolas, 7 x geraniums, 4 x asters and 4 x antirrhinums.
Two of the cork squares are damaged in so much as one has a corner missing and one bizarrely has a hole in the middle, but for this layout I placed the semi-circular bed over the damaged bits of grass, which worked beautifully. Please note that the sun-dial has lost its pointer at the top so I have included this in the set free of charge. The two rabbits, bushes and small tree were just spare in a box, so I have included them free with this set too, as I think they add to the fun of it. Britains garden items are all in 1/32 scale, but many dolls house collectors do use them with their old dolls houses that are larger in scale (me included).
This layout approx. measures 12″ x 8″ when fully set up. To give further indication in size, the pond measures 5 1/4″ long x 3 1/2″ deep, each rockery piece measures 1 3/4″ x 1 3/4″ x 1″ high, crazy paving measures 7/8″ x 7/8″, long wall measures 3 1/2″ long x 1/2″ high, cork grass square measures 1 5/8″ x 1 5/8″, long straight flower bed measures 3 1/2″ long x 1 3/4″ deep, sundial measures just under 1 1/2″ high.
I hope someone out there can give this little set a good home.
