c1930s Taylor & Barrett Gas Cooker (repainted) @ £34.00
Here is the earliest version of the metal cooker, c1930s and made by Taylor & Barrett with an off white painted finish. It looks to be in excellent condition, and I am of the opinion that the main metal body has been repainted. Presumably because a common aspect of this particular model is that over time there is a tendency to show considerable paint loss. This comes complete with a black painted metal plate rack and painted metal hob detail. The metal coloured door opens. What is rather nice is the little hook on the right side of the cooker is still present, these are so often missing, so is refreshing to have. You could hang a pair of vintage oven gloves perhaps or tea towel on there? The plate rack sits on the upper hooks, and there is a knack of perching it so that it stays up, but with a bit of practice you will get the hang of it. Overall this is in a good played with condition, just a little wear – mostly underneath the grill area where it has not been over painted, plus there is a little bit of warping to the soft metal hob top. But seeing as this is about 80 years old, I think it is brilliant that it has survived so well. Because this has been over painted the price has been reduced by 23%, so a bargain by someone, as this really is in a solid condition and fully intact. Lovely item. Measures 3 3/4″ high x 2″ wide x 1 1/2″ depth.
