c1930s Wagner & Son Toy Stable Plus Wooden Cart, Animals & Figures SOLD
This is a first for KT Miniatures and quite a rare item. It comes with two farm figures, a bull, cow, bullock, cockerel, chicken plus a wooden cart. I have been told that the two paper mache horses that had originally accompanied this stable are older than the actual stable, so I have decided to sell the horses separately to the stable. If you are looking for something a little different to add to your miniatures collection, then this could be for you.
The stable exterior is of wooden construction in a cream painted finish and terracotta painted roof. The main stable room has three sections with feeding trough and shelf along the back. Plus to the left of this area is a larger space for the cart. On the left side wall interior, a previous owner has fixed three tiny hanging nails…I wonder what was hung there? Above this area is the hayloft that has one larger opening door with window (missing metal tack handle) and a smaller opening door that has the original metal tack handle. The painted stencil design around the doors is like the painted finish on some of the Wagner dolls houses of the same period. On the far-left side wall exterior there is an image of a hand painted tree, which is rather charming. To the far right of the stable is a quaint little hen house with a side ramp leading up to an upper floor. The roof of the hen house is hinged which allows access to inside. The whole of the building is fixed to a green painted wooden base. Overall this is in a good played with condition, there is some wear to the paintwork here and there. Also, above the hayloft door, one can tell from the tiny bit of glue residue that something is missing…possibly a wooden hook for a pulley mechanism perhaps? The building measures 21 ¾” wide x 7 ½” deep x 15 ¾” high.
Accompanying this stable building is an old wooden cart with metal spoked wheels. There is a historic worm hole on the top edge of the cart, but it appears that this was from way back, and there is no evidence there ever being any further infestation to either the cart or the stable. There are two 1930s Elastolin figures and a rooster (each marked ELASTOLIN). There is also a bull, cow and bullock and tiny chicken, possibly Elastolin but there is no maker’s mark. These figures and animals are in a relatively good played with condition, although please note that the lady figure has a weeny crack in both legs and damage to her right arm (see pics), a previous owner clearly has had a lot of fun with her! Plus the bull and bullock each have a tiny crack in a leg – as seen in photos but nothing major. Judging by the scale of the people figures (ie. man measures 4” high and lady measures 3 ¾”), I would say that this stable and figures are 1/16th scale? This is a lovely thing and would make a fabulous addition to an old dolls house collection.
