Rare Vintage Barton Hand Painted Framed Nursery Picture SOLD
I more or less deduce how rare a vintage miniature item is, by how many I have handled in my 25 years of trading. And here is an item that I have not handled before, so I am describing this as one of Barton’s more rare pieces, and something for the serious collector, hence it has been priced accordingly. This is a hand painted nursery scene on thick water colour paper, backed on cardboard, with a varnished wooden frame. There is a hanging thread which has been pushed through the cardboard backing, and if one holds this at a certain angle with the light shining on it, one can make out the slight bulge of the thread which has clearly been sandwiched between the back of the painted paper and the backing cardboard. The water colour and pen/ink nursery picture of a rowing boat with pixies (or are they elves?), is utterly charming. On the back there is the tiny diamond shaped Barton red and black label on the back, plus the words HAND PAINTED printed in red ink. Overall this is in a good played with and original condition, and because of the nature of the materials used, the cardboard backing has just a hint of a slight warp but when hanging on the wall it is not noticeable. Measures 2 ¼” x 1 5/8”. Lovely item, and one which makes me smile!
