Vintage Chestnut Hill Studio Wall Mirror Signed Arthur Cowles @ £16.50
Here is a curious vintage mirror, with attractively shaped wooden frame that has a metal bird embellishment at the top. On the back it is clearly marked Chestnut Hill Studio. I understand that this American company was established by a Reta Cowles-Johnson back in 1947, and her son Arthur Cowles, and daughter in law Mary Dudley Cowes, ran the company from 1962, right through to the late 1970s. Arthur’s signature can be seen on the back, so was the artisan who made this. Overall, it is in a good played with condition, but please note that there is a splodge of varnish down the lower left side of the mirror itself, so am wondering if this may have been revarnished at some point by a previous owner? Measures 2 7/8” high x 1 ¾” overall width.
