Living And Dining Room

All items on this page are of various scales and include not only genuine antique and vintage items, but also may include KT Miniatures handmade vintage style miniatures too.  For ease I have given measurements and where possible also stated what scale I think the item is. Many old dolls houses do not conform and scale is a mismatch. In this case, my advice would be to forget about scale and simply fill your little abodes with what you like.

Vintage Round Wooden Coffee Table @ £5.50

Here is a useful white painted wooden coffee table. Age and origin unknown but came with an assortment of furniture from the 1930s – 1950s, so I have to assume this is of the same era. It has a price of 3d written underneath. As you can see, this is in a well played with condition, much wear and the legs have been fixed in a realigned position. But nevertheless this could be useful to someone. With a cloth over the top or nice vintage plant or vase, would finish this off nicely.  Measures 2″ high x 2 5/8″ diameter.

Suitable for 1/12th scale (or possibly dining table for 1/16th scale?)

Hand Painted c1930s German Dining Chair @ £14.50

This is an old wooden German dining chair that had a nasty deep scratch along the front of the chair back, and also heavy stains to the original finish.  Gentle sanding could not disguise the deep scratch. So I decided to breath new life into this by giving it an aged light green paint finish, and hand paint a tiny floral design on the chair back to draw away the eye from the deep scratch. Finally it has been given a wax polish coat to protect the paintwork. Measures sitting height 1 1/2″  x back height 3″ x width 2″ x depth 1 1/2″.

Vintage Wooden Bookcase & 26 Tiny Books @ £18.00 RESERVED

Here is a lovely old dark stained wooden bookcase with 26 tiny books with blank pages. This came with a set of 1930s-1950s dolls house items, so have to assume these are from that same era. On the back of the bookcase is a price of 1/9 written in pencil so therefore one must also assume that this was commercially made. The wooden bookcase has two shelves and all 26 tiny books look rather fabulous sitting on these shelves. Nice item. Measures 2 7/8″ wide x 1″ deep x 2 3/4″ high.

Vintage Pretty Yellow Painted Set Of A German Round Table  & Two Coffee/Occasional Tables(?) @ £18.50

Here is a pretty and useful set of three German yellow painted tables of assorted sizes. As these came all together I have decided to sell these as one set. They could in fact be useful in all kinds of rooms in the dolls house, however because of the round dining table, I have placed them under this section. One of the coffee/occasional tables as an opening drawer. All are in a good played with condition, there is some roughness along the top back edge of table with drawer. I am wondering if some sort of back plinth or strip was once glued along here? Due to their style and shape, I am deducing they are German. As they came with a group of c1930s – 1950s dolls house furniture, I am assuming they are of the same era too. The dining table measures 2 1/4″ high x 3 1/4″ in diameter. The coffee table with drawer measures 1 5/8″ high x 2 7/8″ wide x 1 3/8″ deep. The smallest of the tables measures 2 1/4″ long 1 7/8″ deep x 7/8″ high.  Nice useful set for an old dolls house.

These tables are kind of in between both 1/16th and 1/12th scale, so suitable for old dolls house where scale does not matter

Early 1900s- 1920s German Chair @ £14.00

Here is a delightful early 1900s – 1920s German wooden blue painted chair, with blue material upholstered seat and fringe. The shape of the arms are wonderfully curved at the front and the chair back is rather attractive with two vertical struts and a cut out diamond shape in between. The upholstery is original to the chair. Overall this is in a good played with condition, some wear. Measures 1 1/2″ sitting height x 4″ back height x 2 1/2″ at  widst point x 1 3/4″ deep.

Suitable for 1/12th scale dolls house

Vintage Wooden Sideboard @ £14.00

This is a vintage dark stained wooden sideboard, am assuming it was homemade from plans? There is a pencil mark on inside of both doors which are most probably the piece numbers. This has a 1930s-1950s look to it. Both doors open and have tiny screws as handles, and the feet are decorative beads. Now overall this is in a good played with condition, but the front right foot lifts slightly off the floor, as it appears that the nail with the bead has been pushed in further than all the others.   A bit of a fiddle, but the new owner could possibly try pulling the nail out a bit to adjust the height, if possible. Or, as we used to do in our old real life size family home when growing up….you could shove a miniature book underneath perhaps, to even the height out? Measures 5 1/4″ wide x 1 3/4″ deep x 3 1/4″ back height x 3″ sideboard worktop height.

Suitable for slightly larger scale dolls house or possibly even 1/12th scale house

c1930s Tiny Toy Bureau @ £15.00 SOLD

This is an instantly recognisable Tiny Toy bureau, with a red and gold finish to the wooden paintwork. Tiny Toy dolls house furniture was made in the 1930s. This bureau has a drop down frontage and two lower opening drawers. However, please note that the top interior blue lining paper that acts as a hinge to the drop down front seems to have been fixed  rather tight so the frontage does not drop down fully very easily but if you put some weight on it, it does come down a bit further.   Generally overall though, this is in a good played with condition, just a little  wear.  NB. as you can see in the photos, the manufacturer has been a bit slap dash with the paint over raw edges of drawers and underneath, maybe the person whose job it was to paint this on that particular day was in a bit of a hurry! 🙂 Measures 3″ wide x 2 1/2″ high x 1 5/8″ deep.

Suitable for 1/16th scale

c1930s Attractive Fretwork Wooden Chair @ £9.50

This is a lovely dark stained wooden chair with a gorgeous fretwork cut chair back.  It came with a bundle of 1930s dolls house furniture so am assuming this is of the same era. Origin unknown – this could have been commercially made or homemade by a competent woodworker. There is  glue marking on the chair back along the join where the back meets the seat, but other than that, this is in an overall good played with condition. Sitting height 1 1/4″ x back height 3 1/4″ x  at widest point 1 3/4″ x  at deepest point 1 1/2″.

Ref: Fretwork Chair

Suitable for 1/16th scale dolls house

Vintage Green Cane Chair Large Scale @ £8.00

Here is a vintage large scale woven cane chair that has been painted in an attractive dark green. The origin and exact age unknown. This is in a good played with condition. Measures sitting height 1 1/2″ x back height 4″ x base depth 3 3/4″. So quite large in scale.

Suitable for large scale dolls house or old dolls house where scale does not matter

Antique Tin German Fireplace (Missing Fender & Embellishments) @ £7.00 SOLD

This tiny early 1900s tin German fireplace is not in perfect condition, as you can see. The fender is missing, so too embellishments off the front. Judging by the markings inside the fireplace, it looks like there should have been a fire fret too perhaps?  Also there is much wear and a little rusting to the paintwork. Nevertheless, this still has a charm about it, the stone and brickwork detail is rather attractive. However, because of the condition, the price has been greatly reduced. I hope that someone somewhere can give this a good home and make use of it. Measures 2 5/8″ widest point x 2 1/4″ high x 1 1/4″ at deepest point.

Ref: German Tin Fireplace Damaged

Suitable for maybe 1/24th scale dolls house or even a small 1/16th scale house

Vintage Glazed Cabinet @ £17.50 RESERVED

This is a vintage glazed cabinet with opening door and one interior shelf. Age and origin completely unknown, but at a guess I think it may be from the 1930s? I suspect this has been commercially made – but I may be wrong,  and have a suspicion that the thick glass may be a replacement…simply because thick white glue that has fixed the glazing to the back of the door can clearly be seen through the back of the glass inside.  I really like this and had purchased it singularly at a fair from a dealer for display purposes in my own vintage toy shop project. Sadly and frustratingly the height of the top was just 1/8″ too tall for the corner it was meant to go, so reluctantly I am  having to relinquish this. Hopefully it will be of use to someone else. Around the door window is a dark red painted line, so too along the bottom plinth and again along the top edge…a nice additional touch. Where the pin for a hinge at the top of the door has been fixed into the wood, a tiny split has occurred but which is inconsequential as it does not interfere with the door opening and shutting. The handle is a metal nail. Nice item. Measures 3 1/2″ at widest point  x 1 3/4″ deep x 6″ high.

Two Vintage Blue Wooden Chairs @ £8.95

Here are two rather lovely pale blue wooden chairs. These came with a group of late 1940s/early 1950s dolls house furniture so am assuming these are from the same era. Maker unknown. They are rather elgant looking in shape and could be useful for an old dolls house. They are in a good played with condition, a little worn and some marks. Each chair measurs 2″ sitting height x 4″ back height x 1 1/2″ wide x 1 1/2″ deep. The scale is a bit all over the place with these chairs.

c1930s (?) Antique Art Deco Style  Fireplace With Old Bulb @ £19.50

This old fireplace does remind me of some similar 1930s fireplaces very much with a hint of an Art Deco feel in the design that I have occasionally  seen over the years , but one difference is that I have never seen one of these with a bulb in the grate and a lift up door at the back for a battery to fit in. As I have been trading for 21 years I would say that would make this rather rare?  I am assuming that the little slit above the fire opening was for a metal lever  switch. There was obviously something glued around the bulb at one time as you can see some sort of residue, which I assume was crumpled red cellophane/ tissue paper or some sort of coal detail?  The wooden surround has attractive added embellishments of three green wood strips, which gives this a real Art Deco appearance. This is a delightful and intriguing fireplace. Apart from the points mentioned above, this is in a reasonably good condition, some wear.  Measures 4″ wide x 2 1/4″ at deepest point x 3 1/8″ high.

Suitable for 1/12th scale or possibly 1/16th scale

Old German Sideboard @ £16.00

This is rather nice old German wooden sideboard in a dark stain finish, with one upper shelf and one opening door.  The door , although opening as one, has been given exterior detail and two nail handles to give the illusion that there are two doors. This could look fabulous laden with china or glassware.  It is in a good played with condition. Measures 3 7/8″ wide x 5″ high x 1 3/8″ deep.

Vintage Chunky Wooden Dining Table @ £5.00

This varnished wooden table I suspect has been homemade. It does not have legs as such but two pieces of curved wood as supports. Have no idea of age or origin, came with a mixed bunch of antique and vintage dolls house items.  It does have a certain charm about it and could be a useful addition to an old dolls house. Overall this is in a good played with condition. Please note that the scale of this item does not conform. Measures 2″ high x 5 3/8″ long x 2 1/2″ wide.

Suitable for old dolls house where scale does not matter

Unusual Vintage Quirky Two Chair & Stool Set @ £8.95

Here is a quite unusual and quirky wooden chair set, consisting of an occasional chair,  a rocking chair and stool, all in a pale blue paint wash. There is a very distinctive Japanese feel to these, the way the legs have been shaped, so I assume the set originates from Japan. They are believed to date from the 1930s. It is hard to determine the scale of this set as it seems to be a mixture. The occasional chair measures 1 1/2″ sitting height x 1 1/8″ wide x 3 1/4″ back height. The rocking chair measures 1 1/8″ sitting height x 1 1/8″ width x 2 3/4″ back height. The stool measures 1 14″ sitting height x 1 1/8″ wide.

UPDATE: Thank you to the customer who told me that she had a similar set as a child and that there were several pieces of furniture that all slotted together to make a puzzle block, very much like a  very fat jigsaw.

c1950s FGT & Sons Metal Coal Fire Insert @ £16.00

This is one of the more unusual FGT items that doesn’t come along quite so often these days. It is a metal interior fire insert with lit coal fire detail, complete with old fashioned green tiled effect. It has been designed to fit up against a fire surround. A simple fire surround (if you don’t have one) could be made from offcuts of wooden beading to fit around this, plus a longer flat piece for the mantel? This fire insert is in a good played with condition, just a little paint loss. Measures 2 1/4″ across the base x 2 3/8″ to top of arch. Lovely item.

Suitable for 1/16th scale and possibly 1/12th scale

Vintage FGT Gas Fire @ £28.00

This is a lovely mottled dark brown/ copper/black painted colour, post war gas fire-marked FGT & Sons. It is exactly the same as the T&B pre-war version – made from the same mould. In a relatively good played with condition, a little wear to the paintwork.  Measures 2 3/8″ high x 1 1/2″ wide.

Suitable For Both 1/16th Scale & 1/12th Scale Dolls House

Handmade KT Miniatures Replica c1910 German Style Wooden Fireplace @ £32.00

This is a replica of my actual c1910 German fireplace that I have had in my own collection for years and because I had never been able to find another like it but wanted another one…I decided to replicate the original! I was so chuffed to bits with the results that since then,  although extremely time consuming to create, I have made  some more.

This fireplace  is made from a variety of materials, but mainly wood, printed card and paint! It is finished in a dark wood acrylic colour with a polished finish. The tile is a scanned image of original and the hearth also.

Overal dimension – height 3 1/2″ x 3″ width x 1 1/4″ depth.

Suitable for both 1/12th and 1/16th scale dolls house

Old German Chair & Matching Stool @ £10.95 SOLD

Here is a delightful white painted wooden chair with attractive checked material upholstery and a matching stool. These are believed to be of German origin from the 1920s -1930s. The chair back has been repaired at some point and has been fixed with a slight lean inwards which gives this a real quirky air to it!  Also underneath there appears to be a hint of two nails which presumably are there to keep the upholstered pad on, plus you can see a pale green colour so am wondering if this has been repainted at some point in its long life, and was in fact originally pale green? The stool also wooden and with the same upholstery, also has a definite set of leaning legs slightly inwards on one side. So I guess we could describe these as being in a good well played with condition. Chair measures sitting height 1 5/8″ x overall back height 3 1/4″ x 2 1/4″ width x 1 3/4″ depth. Stoll has sitting height of 1 3/4″ x 2 1/4″ width x 1 1/2″ depth.  I do hope someone can give these a good home, the photos just doesn’t do them justice.

Old German Sideboard Large Scale (some damage to hinge) @ £8.50

Here is a large scale wooden German sideboard, with lovely two tone finish on the front exterior. The two doors at the front open and the feet are a curious curved shape. Overall this has a very Art Deco feel to it and am assuming that this is from the 1930s. Please note that the tiny pin hinge at the top of the left door is exposed  as a tiny splinter has come away, but I have tried it a few times and it seems to stay intact on opening, however the price reflects this and has been reduced accordingly. This is most definitely larger than your ordinary 1/12th scale so please check the measurements before ordering. Measures 5 7/8″ wide x 2 1/4″ deep x 3 3/4″ total back height x 3 1/4″ worktop height.

Two Vintage Large Scale Quirky Chairs @ £4.50

Here is a pair of rather odd and quirky large scale chairs. Previous owner  told me that hese had been handmade in the early 1900s and apparently used to sit in  a German miniature shop for many years. If you are looking for large scale chairs that are a little bit different and fun, then these may be just right for you. The chairbacks each have a fretsaw cut back and  uniquely each have been cut from one block of wood. In a wonderful whacky way, you can see from the photos that the sitting seat parts slope forwards like a slide….haha! Each chair has a front sitting height of 1 1/2″ and a back sitting height (is not often I can say that)  of 1 3/4″. Overall back height of both is 4 1/2″.  Width of one chair is 2 3/8″, whereas the width of other chair is  2 1/4″. The colour is rather interesting….is a kind of hazel colour with a terracotta colour edging all the way around all cut edges, which makes them even more interesting!  They are in a well played with condition.

Scale is all over the place with these so I would say that these would either suit a large scale dolls house or old dolls house where scale does not matter.

Pair Of Early 1900s German Single Chairs @ £10.00

Here is a pair of square shaped early 1900s German wooden chairs with material covered seats and top curved material covered edges. Although these have been quite crudely made, they have a certain charm. In a good played with condition, just a little wear and some minor fabric fraying. Measures 2 3/6″ high x 2 5/6″ deep and wide each.

Antique Glass Fruit Bowl With Handle @ £29.00

Here is a lovely decorative purple antique glass fruit bowl with twisted blue glass handle and original fruit. The fruit are fixed into the bowl (apart from one which has come adrift ) and am not entirely sure what they are made of, but perhaps dried pips of some sort? But each have an outer coloured textured coating which have split and in some cases, have come right away leaving the inner exposed? But this just adds to the character of the piece. The basket itself is in good played with condition. Measures 2 1/4″ high so quite large, therefore would suit antique dolls house where scale does not matter or a large scale dolls house.

c1930s Vintage Raffia Table @ £13.00 SOLD

This is believed to be a pre-war little table, with legs wrapped in raffia. The table top has the original 1930s material and is edged in raffia. Underneath there is a kind of lower raffia shelf. This is delightful and quite unusual. In a good played with condition. Measures 1 7/8″ x 1 7/8″ x 1 5/8″ high.

Suitable For 1/12th or 1/16th Scale

Unusual Small Vintage Sideboard @ £4.50

This is a a very old and unusual homemade sideboard, with mock door front that has two metal handles. The door has been given a slanted appearance and has a bit of an Art Deco feel to it. Useful little item for the 1/16th scale dolls house. In a good played with condition. Measures 3 1/4″ long x2″ high.
