Living And Dining Room

All items on this page are of various scales and include not only genuine antique and vintage items, but also may include KT Miniatures handmade vintage style miniatures too.  For ease I have given measurements and where possible also stated what scale I think the item is. Many old dolls houses do not conform and scale is a mismatch. In this case, my advice would be to forget about scale and simply fill your little abodes with what you like.

Rare Late 1800s/Early 1900s Ornate Metal German (French?) Chair  @ £36.00 SOLD

Here is a gorgeous metal chair, ornate in design with original dusky pink silk fabric upholstered seat pad. Much of the gilt colour is still visible but a lot has been rubbed off. The seat pad is in a worn condition but still delightful to have the original fabric. The legs are quite ornate in design. This is very old indeed and such items rarely come along these days fully intact. The legs in particular would have been particularly vulnerable in young hands. My gut instinct is that these are of German origin, but it has been suggested to me that they could be French? This measures 1 5/8″ wide x 1 1/2″ deep x 3″ back height x 1 5/8″ sitting height.

Rare Late 1800s/Early 1900s Ornate Metal German (French?) Chair  – Slight Stain On Seat Pad @ £33.00 SOLD

Here is a gorgeous metal chair, ornate in design with original dusky pink silk fabric upholstered seat pad. Much of the gilt colour is still visible but a lot has been rubbed off. The seat pad is in a worn condition and has a visible stain right on top, hence the slight reduction in price compared to the same chair being sold above.  But still delightful to have the original fabric and seeing as this chair is at least 100 years old, I think it can be forgiven. The legs are quite ornate in design. This is very old indeed and such items rarely come along these days fully intact. The legs in particular would have been particularly vulnerable in young hands. My gut instinct is that these are of German origin, but it has been suggested to me that they could be French? This measures 1 5/8″ wide x 1 1/2″ deep x 3″ back height x 1 3/4″ sitting height.

Late 1800s/Early 1900s German Upholstered Single Chair @ £16.50

This is quite charming, German origin and believed to be from the late 1800s/early 1900s…so quite old. So it can be forgiven for having a slight chipped front leg, although it is practically hidden by the heavy fabric fringing. The silk upholstery is original, with a lovely distinctive blue printed design on the chair back. Overall though, this is in a well played with condition and there is much wear to the fabric, particularly on the chair back where it is rather threadbare. Fascinatingly some of the very fine sawdust stuffing can be seen if pressed, however this damage could be covered by a cushion.  Measures1 7/8″ wide x 1 1/2″ deep x 3 7/8″ back height x 1 1/2″ sitting height.

Restored Late 1800s/Early 1900s German (French?) Ornate Metal Chair With Missing Leg Propped Up With Imitation Books @ £29.50

What do you do when you have a gorgeous antique German (or could be French)metal chair with a missing metal leg? Does it sit in a box for ever more or worse, chucked away? Or does one do something with it so that it can be loved once again. Well I chose the latter…of course! Ok, this is not going to appeal to the purists out there and I fully understand that.  But am hoping that can go to a good home where it will be loved.  I have created some of my old looking imitation books to replace the missing leg, in order to prop the chair up so that it actually stands now. Maybe it could sit in an old dolls house attic, drawing room or library room?

The chair itself is quite ornate in design with a decorative scrolled back, two decorative side panels with rungs and three decorative legs. It still has remnants of the original gilt and black painted finish but most has worn off. The upholstered dusky pink seat pad is original and thought to be silk but as you can see, it is heavily worn, almost threadbare in places and has a tiny dark stain at the front. But you know, I think this just adds to the overall character now. And then, as you can see, I have created and fixed a tall pile of books to prop the chair up initially, and added three more books in a pile to stand in front to help stabilise the whole thing. The result far exceeded my expectations  and I am delighted with the result. So much so, that I have been in two minds whether to let this go!

The chair itself measures 2 5/8″ back height x 1 1/2″ sitting height x 1 5/8″ width x 2″ depth. The books extend the overall width of the whole thing to 2″. NB. You can see more about this chair on KT Miniatures Journal – CLICK HERE.

cEarly 1900s German Oak Cupboard (missing handles) @ £18.00 SOLD

Was not sure whether to put this under the kitchen section or this section. Could be used in either kitchen or living/dining room. This is made from oak, believed to be of German origin from the early 1900s. It is lovely. Ok, it may be missing al four of its metal handles but am sure that whoever takes this on, could replace with tiny metal tacks or similar? if necessary? To be honest though, this looks fine without. Both the upper and lower doors open. The upper door has yellow celluloid type mock glass for upper windows. It looks like at some time, someone has tried to reinforce the glued edges with brown paper. This has a lovely shaped top plinth. The front edges of the side panels have an attractive grooved finish and the four feet are nicely turned. It is all these little decorative extras that make this a rather lovely item. Measures 5 1/2″ high x 3 1/2″ wide x 2 1/8″ deep.

Small Early 1900s Oak Sideboard (missing upper shelf) @ £10.50

Here is a very old German oak sideboard, which has one large opening  lower door and one mock non opening drawer. The original gorgeous decorative soft metal handles are still in place. However, I can vaguely see some residue on the top shelf which seems to suggest there were two supports which possibly held a second upper shelf? Nevertheless, this looks fabulous without and once the upper shelf is laden with wares, this will look rather splendid indeed. Measures 3 1/2″ wide x 1 5/8″ deep x 4 1/8″ high.

Vintage Fabric & Cardboard Box Sofa @ £6.50

This is delightful but simple in construction. Probably homemade. This has been constructed by either the lid or base of a small cardboard box, which has been covered in fabric, with  sides and back made from fabric covered cardboard.  The fabric has been stitched to the box. The fabric is a little grubby but overall this is in a reasonably good played with condition. Measures 3 1/2″ wide x 2 1/4″ deep x 2 1/4″ back height x 1″ sitting height. Nice item.

c1931/32 “Nuways” Model Bureau Bookcase By Bassett-Lowke SOLD

Here is an exquisite and increasingly rare early 1930s dark stained oak bureau/bookcase made by Bassett Lowke and which was sold under the “Nuways” label.  In the 1931 Nuways catalogue this was listed as No. 8500 /3 as a  “MODEL BUREAU BOOKCASE” and was priced back then as 4/-, which was quite expensive in those days. Apparently the Nuways furniture was sold for a very limited time only, so this furniture is not as prolific as other makes, so a fantastic opportunity to own one of these lovely pieces from the Nuways range. It has two opening lower doors and a hinged writing flap. It even has six separate imitation sets of wooden books, beautifully painted. There are three useful upper shelves with spare space for even more books. The handles are turned wood. This is in an excellent condition. Measures just under 2 3/4″ wide x 1 1/8″ deep x just under 5 3/4″ high. The writing desk flap when pulled down stands at a height of 2 1/4″.

Unusual Attractive Large Scale Vintage  Wooden Japanese Round “Apple” Table, Teapot, Coffee Pot,  Sugar Bowl, Two Cups & Saucers @ £16.00

This is fun set, extremely unusual and large in scale. Believed to be Japanese and all wooden, age unknown but I would say this is vintage. The three legged table is in the shape of a magnificent red apple, with hints of yellow and even a brown stalk! There is a tall coffee pot with fixed lid, teapot and sugar bowl, both with removable lids. Also there are two tea cups and saucers….one teacup is larger than the other. All of these items have a painted floral motif on the side. In a good played with condition, some wear and a little scuffing. To give you an indication of size, the table measures approx. 4 3/4″ diameter x 2 1/2″ high. Coffee pot measures 2 1/2″ high, teapot measures 1 1/4″ high, sugar bowl measures just under 1 1/4″ high.

c1960s/70s   Dining Table With Jazzy Floral Paper Table Top @ £6.90 SOLD

Here is a vintage wooden dining table with a very distinctive bright coloured floral paper top.Judging by the design of paper it is probably 1960s or 1970s. Maker unknown but looks like it has been commercially made. This is held up by two sets of V shaped legs and is solidly made. Overall this is in a good played with condition, some wear. Measures 4 5/8″ long x 2 5/8″ deep x 2 1/4″ high.

Vintage Wooden Table With Curved Legs @ £5.00 SOLD

Here is an attractive small wooden table with curved legs. It could be used as a coffee/occasional table for 1/12th scale dolls house, or perhaps even a small dining table in the 1/16th scale house? Maker and age unknown, but to me it has a more vintage than antique feel to it. The curved shaped legs really do add to its charm. In a good played with condition. Measures 2 1/4″ wide x 2 1/4″ deep x 1 3/4″ high.

Suitable for both 1/16th & 1/12th scale dolls house

Unusual Vintage Small  Occasional Table With Woven Reed Type Top @ £14.00 SOLD

Here is an extremely unusual wooden occasional table with some sort of woven reed   top? I am calling it reed but not sure how else to describe it. Origin and age not known, but it is quite charming and delicate. I had thought at first that this may have been collapsible, however I did try gently to move the propped underside bar but it did not go very far, so I gave up as I did not want to risk breaking it. This is a useful vintage occasional table which could be quite versatile and  could be used in a variety of rooms in the dolls house. It is in a good played with condition, some wear. Measures just over 2″ wide & deep x 2 1/8″ high.

Ref: Unusual Occasional Table

Most suitable for 1/12th scale dolls house but could possibly used in a 1/16th scale dolls house

The bureau has two mock non opening drawers and a mock non opening upper flap. Both pieces have an attractive wooden veneer type finish on some of the surfaces. They are in a good played with condition, just a little wear. Bureau measures 2 1/4″ wide x 1 3/8″ deep x 2 5/8″ high. Bookcase measures 2 3/4″ wide x 1 1/4″ deep x 2 3/8″ high.

c1920s/30s German Sideboard With Embellished Door @ £17.50

Here is an old wooden dark stained sideboard with one opening door. The door has an attractive pressed floral embellishment across the top half of the door and retains original metal tack handle. Generally this is in a well played with condition, some marking to the top and considerable scuffing to the right side in particular – so price reflects this. Nevertheless this is an attractive item, not unlike the Elgin/Tri-ang sideboard of the same era. Measures 4 1/2″ wide x 1 1/2″ deep x 2 7/8″ high.

c1920s/30s Pressed Card Sofa By Karl Schreiter @ £29.00

Here is a gorgeous old “Korbi”  type cream/tan coloured wicker style pressed card sofa with fixed original blue and tan checked fabric seat pad, by the German Karl Schreiter company, around 1920s/30s. This is in a good played with condition, just a little wear.  Measures 4 3/8″ wide x 1 3/4″ deep x 1 1/2″ sitting height  to top of seat pad x 3″ back height.

c1920s/30s Fireplace With Over Mantel Mirror @ £26.00

This is a wonderful old wooden fireplace with a built in over mantel  mirror, the like of which is rarely seen these days! The fire surround and hearth are covered in a delightful original tiled paper instantly recognisable from the 1920s/1930sera. In fact, if you look underneath the hearth you can see the Delft windmill frieze image that would have edged the top of the original sheet of tiled paper – magnificent! The fire has a  large silver painted fretwork grate with crumpled tissue paper to give the illusion of a lit fire! The mantelpiece, fireplace sides and upper backing is in a dark varnished finish. Then of course there is a lovely rectangular mirror above the mantelpiece with an added shaped wooden frame. I am assuming that this has been homemade, possibly from old Handicrafts or Hobbies plans?  It is in a relatively good played with condition, there is some scuffing, marks and slight wear to the paper tiles . Nevertheless, it is still quite charming. Measures 5″ at widest point (hearth) x 2 5/8″ at deepest point  (hearth) x 5 3/8″ high.

Here is  a small antique wooden German table with a green painted table top complete with  a silver and brown stencilled/stamped Art Nouveau design – very evocative of its era. This has one single pedestal support underneath.  Overall this is in a relatively good played with condition, there is some wear, particularly  around the edge of the base where there is a splinter of wood missing. Please take note of the measurements. This would make an ideal dining table for a 1/16th scale dolls house or a small coffee/occasional table in a 1/12th scale dolls house. Measures 3 1/8″ long x just under 2″ deep x 1 5/8″ high.

c1920s/30s German Wooden Seat With Original Fabric Upholstery @ £8.90

Here is a charming high back German wooden seat with original blue and white patterned fabric upholstery . Please note that the fringing that should have run along the front seat edge is long gone, but you can see the original glue residue along the old gluing line. The wood has been given a reddish varnished finish.  The back and underside is unvarnished. Overall this is in a good played with condition. Measures 4″ wide x 1 1/2″ deep x 1″ sitting height x 3 1/2″ back height.

Vintage Wooden Sideboard @ £12.50

This is a really lovely dark varnished wooden sideboard with two opening doors and two attractive metal handles. This does have a very real Art Deco feel to it so I am surmising this could be from around the 1930s, and possibly commercially produced?  It  is a solid and very charming piece of furniture , in a good played with condition. Measures 4″ wide x 1 1/2″ deep x 2 5/8″ to  highest point.

Early 1900s German Soft Metal Condiment Rack & One Bottle @ £32.00

Here is a delightful soft metal condiment rack and one glass bottle.  The bottle has the original metal lid with holes in, and the glass sides have a decorative finish. The rack’s attractive tall handle and all four tiny decorative feet are all present and correct. On close inspection I have noticed that one tiny upright side bar has been glued to the square holder, but this repair  has been undertaken very effectively. These soft metal accessories are extremely fragile and are prone to all kinds of damage, so is nice to see this one in such relatively good condition. There should have been a second condiment bottle but appears to be long gone – not surprising as just imagine how a glass bottle would stand up to rigorous handling in young hands! It is amazing this whole piece has survived at all. Lovely item. Measures 1 1/2″ wide x 1 5/8″ high x 5/8″ deep.

Vintage Wooden Sideboard – Possibly Twiggs? @ £7.50

Here is a varnished wooden sideboard with two opening drawers and two opening doors. It has an attractive and useful upper shelf. Handles are tiny nails. On the back there is paper/glue residue which is reminiscent of a lot of the Twiggs furniture, as they were so often fixed to the display boxes on purchase? However I have not seen one quite like this specific design before. It is in a good played with condition, some wear. Measures 3 3/4″ long x 1 1/4″ deep x 2 3/4″ high.

Vintage German Style Multi Coloured Table & Three Chairs With Animal Motifs @ £21.00 SOLD

I absolutely adore this set and I have been in two minds whether to keep or not, but it is the same old story…I have nowhere to put them, so go they must. I simply cannot just put them in a box for a rainy day:) To be honest, I have never seen any quite like these before. I cannot make up my mind if they were made in the early 1900s or  made later to look like the German style of that time? However, even if they are of the latter, there does appear to be some age to them, so could be classified as vintage at least.

The set comprises of a table and three chairs, painted in a bold green, terracotta red and blue colour, with a cockerel motif on the table top, and a rabbit, duck and squirrel motif on the seats. The  table and chairs have very distinctive cut out slits as side panels  and the legs of the table and chairs are tri-angular in shape. Beautifully made! Underneath one of the chairs is the name Barbara written in pencil. If you are looking for something different for your dolls house, then these could be for you. All pieces are in a good played with condition, some wear. Table measures 2 1/8″ wide x 2 1/8″ long x 2 3/4″ high. Each chair measures 1 1/2″ sitting height x 2 3/4″ back height x 1 1/2″ wide x 1 3/8″ deep.

c1920s/30s German Armchair & Sofa @ £16.00

Here is wooden German sofa and armchair, with original red and cream cotton upholstery. Very Art Deco in style. The wooden frame has a wood grain veneer type finish on the front exterior. On the back is some paper residue, possibly from where they were glued to original display packaging when first purchased? There is also some glue residue on the far right side lower edge of the armchair back panel.  Some wear plus fraying of material on edges. The far left hand back edge of the sofa looks like it had once had a split but which has been glued back together. However, considering their age, overall these are in a relatively good played with condition.Nice set. Sofa measures 4 3/4″ wide x 1 3/8″ deep x 1″ sitting height x 2 3/4″ back height.  Armchair measures 2 3/4″ wide x 1 3/8″ deep x 1″ sitting height x 2 3/4″ back height.

Single c1920s/30s German Dining Chair @ £8.50

Here is a 1920s/30s German single dark stained dining chair, marked GERMANY underneath. This is lovely and so evocative of the style of furniture that was around in the 1920s/30s. It is in a relatively good played with condition, some scuffing, particularly to the front left leg. It has also been re-glued as there is evidence of some excess glue on the back join. Could be used in a variety of rooms and quite a useful little chair. Measures 1 1/4″ sitting height x 3 3/8″ back height x 1 3/4″ wide x 1 1/4″ depth.

Vintage Fireplace With Brick Paper @ £15.00 SOLD

Here is a delightful wooden fireplace in original old brick paper with green painted fender plus painted arched edge, which gives it added charm. I have no idea of origin or age, but think it is probably dated from between 1930s and 1950s. I am wondering if it has been commercially made, although I do not know who by?  Intriguingly the backing is of some sort of black painted card or thick paper, which has crinkled beautifully over the years to give it quite an effective finish. Overall this is in a good played with condition, some tiny tears to the brick paper, mainly on the left corner of the hearty plus on the left fireplace edge. The mantelpiece is a varnished piece of wood.Measures 3 7/8″ wide x  3 1/3″ high x 1″ deep. Lovely item!

Unusual Blue Wooden Vintage Gas/Electric Fire @ £9.50

This is an unusual but simple and utterly charming  wooden gas or electric fire. I think it is meant to stand in the hearth of a fireplace? There is a squared piece that has cleverly been scored and left unpainted in the top half to represent the bars or heating element, the rest has been painted an attractive deep navy blue.I have no idea of its origin or age, could have been homemade but also may have been commercially produced? In a good played with condition. Measures 2 1/2″ high x 1 3/4″ wide x 3/8″ deep.

Small Varnished Wooden Vintage Fireplace @ £8.00

The interior of the fireplace has original old brick paper and lumps of coal. Overall this is in a good played with condition. Some wear to paintwork and brick paper. Pair Of Vintage Faded Pink & Gold Edged Chairs @ £5.50

Here is a pair of what is believed to be homemade wooden chairs painted in dusky faded pink paint and edged in gold paint. One is an armchair and the other is a dining chair. Both are a little crudely made but could be useful for someone. The are in a reasonable played with condition. The two front legs of the dining chair are just very slightly wonky, but gives it extra charm. The armchair measures 2″ wide x 1 3/4″ deep x 2 1/2″ high x7/8″ sitting height. The dining chair measures sitting height 1 5/8″ x back height 3″ x width  1 3/8″ x depth 1 1/2″.

Vintage Speckled Blue Plaster Fireplace – Maker Unknown @ £16.00

Here is a lovely and very pretty pale blue and dark speckled blue plaster fireplace, with lit coal fire detail. Overall this is in a good played with condition, some wear to the exterior. Measures 4″ wide x 1 1/4″ deep x 2 7/8″ high to the top of the back plinth.  A useful little item for many old dolls houses and could actually be used in a variety of rooms of the dolls house.

I love this, it is so unusual and quite striking. I have no idea of date or origin. There are three wooden sections , each with a carved beveled panel . It comes in a dark varnished finish and on the back there are two strips of leather fixed right across to act as hinges. The leather strips have been rather clumsily made, and have been fixed a little tight restricting the way that the two side panels splay out. I find this quite surprising since someone has gone to so much trouble to beautifully carve the wood. So I am wondering if the leather hinges are later additions? Although this fire screen stands nicely, it could benefit with new looser pieces of leather.  Overall in a good played with condition. Measures 2 1/4″ high x 3 1/8″ overall width. Lovely item!

Vintage Round Wooden Coffee Table @ £5.00

Here is a useful white painted wooden coffee table. Age and origin unknown but came with an assortment of furniture from the 1930s – 1950s, so I have to assume this is of the same era. It has a price of 3d written underneath. As you can see, this is in a well played with condition, much wear and the legs have been fixed in a realigned position. But nevertheless this could be useful to someone. With a cloth over the top or nice vintage plant or vase, would finish this off nicely.  Measures 2″ high x 2 5/8″ diameter.

c1930s (?) Antique Art Deco Style  Fireplace With Old Bulb @ £19.50

This old fireplace does remind me of some similar 1930s fireplaces very much with a hint of an Art Deco feel in the design that I have occasionally  seen over the years , but one difference is that I have never seen one of these with a bulb in the grate and a lift up door at the back for a battery to fit in. As I have been trading for 21 years I would say that would make this rather rare?  I am assuming that the little slit above the fire opening was for a metal lever  switch. There was obviously something glued around the bulb at one time as you can see some sort of residue, which I assume was crumpled red cellophane/ tissue paper or some sort of coal detail?  The wooden surround has attractive added embellishments of three green wood strips, which gives this a real Art Deco appearance. This is a delightful and intriguing fireplace. Apart from the points mentioned above, this is in a reasonably good condition, some wear.  Measures 4″ wide x 2 1/4″ at deepest point x 3 1/8″ high.

Old German Sideboard Large Scale (some damage to hinge) @ £7.50

Here is a large scale wooden German sideboard, with lovely two tone finish on the front exterior. The two doors at the front open and the feet are a curious curved shape. Overall this has a very Art Deco feel to it and am assuming that this is from the 1930s. Please note that the tiny pin hinge at the top of the left door is exposed  as a tiny splinter has come away, but I have tried it a few times and it seems to stay intact on opening, however the price reflects this and has been reduced accordingly. This is most definitely larger than your ordinary 1/12th scale so please check the measurements before ordering. Measures 5 7/8″ wide x 2 1/4″ deep x 3 3/4″ total back height x 3 1/4″ worktop height.

Antique Glass Fruit Bowl With Handle @ 19.00

Here is a lovely decorative purple antique glass fruit bowl with twisted blue glass handle and original fruit. The fruit are fixed into the bowl (apart from one which has come adrift ) and am not entirely sure what they are made of, but perhaps dried pips of some sort? But each have an outer coloured textured coating which have split and in some cases, have come right away leaving the inner exposed? But this just adds to the character of the piece. The basket itself is in good played with condition. Measures 2 1/4″ high so quite large, therefore would suit antique dolls house where scale does not matter or a large scale dolls house.
